Anonymous asked: I might be the worst rugger in the world for saying this but... I hate running just to run. Put me in a game and I'm fine and could run forever!! Any tips for staying in (cardio) shape over the off-season?
nooooo sweetie, it’s ok I, and a lot of others, struggle with running just to run as well! So here are some things that help me through:
- run alone with a killer playlist (mine is mostly dubstep, anything with a good beat, or something inspirational like “I’ll make a man out of you” disney songs hehe)
- or run with someone, a teammate would be great. if you can’t motivate yourself the other person will, and they will push you which is always great.
- always visualize your goals- you are doing this for a reason what is it? (I struggle with stamina. So, when I am running and I just want to stop because I am so tired I visualize feeling like that on the pitch. I visualize that all of a sudden the ball is thrown to me and I see an opening… if I were this tired on the pitch when I got the ball would I stop? HECK NO I’d run that mother all the way to a try! And I want to be able to actually make it when that day comes- so I imagine that and I keep running)
- there are also circuits that break up running with exercise but still give you great cardio (you can also try insanity)
Hope this helps, rugger! And remember

(come on, a high school musical reference? I had to!) If anyone else has any other advice comment on this and I will post all of the answers that are given to me tomorrow. rugby on!
